AAargh!

Dec 30, 2009

As you can see I am having trouble with my blog layout.  I really liked the last onet but it gave me so many problems, that I just couldn't work with it.  I couldn't get rid of a blank line across the top viewable only in Firefox, and I had font discrepancies.

Anyway, I am working on it, but nothing is working for me.  I may give it a rest for tonight.

Thanks for your patience!

Noel: French for Birthday

Dec 24, 2009

The first noel the angel did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay-in fields where they lay keeping their sheep, on a cold winter's night that was so deep.

They looked up and saw a star shining in the east, beyond them far; and to the earth it gave great light, and so it continued both day and night.

And by the light of that same star, three wise men came from country far; to seek for a king was their intent, and to follow the star wherever it went.

This star drew nigh to the northwest, o'er Bethlehem it took its rest; and there it did both stop and stay, right over the place where Jesus lay.

Then entered in those wise men three, full rev'rently upon their knee, and offered there, in His presence, their gold and myrrh and frankincense.

Then let us all with one accord sing praises to our heav'nly Lord, that hath made heav'n and earth of naught, and with His blood mankind hath bought.

Chorus: Noel, noel! Noel, noel! Born is the King of Israel!

Motherhood: The toughest job you'll ever love!

I've been involved in a great discussion over at Sarah Mae's about intentional motherhood.  In short, those involved in the discussion confirmed that  most of us were never given the tools and training we needed for the profession of motherhood.  We were either left in the dark about this position, or we were trained for something else, like a career.

I've been involved with an organization for many years called Hearts at Home that encourages, equips, and trains women in the Profession of Motherhood.  They hold conferences each year that have tons of workshops to choose from that address everything you an imagine about raising a family.  They have tremendous resources:  website, blog, newsletters, books, e-community, etc. that can keep encouraging us all on a daily basis to continue learning and applying biblical truths about raising a family and keeping a home.

My favorite book by Jill Savage, Founder and Executive Director of Hearts at Home, is My Heart's at Home.  This is a book that defines what it means to create a home that is a safe, secure, loving and educational.  This is just one book of many at Hearts at Home that can help you on your motherhood journey.

My absolute favorite thing is the Hearts at Home National Conference held in Normal, Illinois in March each year.  Thousands of moms all come together to learn and be inspired on their journey of motherhood.  If you are able to come, you won't be disappointed!  You could even meet up with me!

Leave me a comment, have you ever attended this event?  What did you think?

Join us over at Sarah Mae's for more discussion and other great resources to help train us all as Mothers.

I Married a Rock Star!

Dec 22, 2009

Today marks 13 years of wedded bliss to my Knight in Shining Armor.  I could not have found a more perfect man to be my husband, so I know all the glory belongs to God for orchestrating our meeting.(long story)

I am so thankful for a man who understands me, who encourages me, who puts up with my mood swings (seriously, he's been through several bouts of my depression!), and loves me with an unconditional love that I have never experienced before.

Don't get me wrong, we've had some scrapes just like every other married couple, but somehow it always comes back to just being awesome.  We work really hard at keeping it that way.

Can I encourage you to find the awesome in your marriage again?  Take time for each other, talk much, talk often, play together, hang out, be best friends.  We don't go out on many "date" nights, but we sure have fun hanging out on the couch watching movies, playing scrabble(I lose) and enjoying each others company.

Take hold of what God intended to be your most important relationship.  CELEBRATE!

I know we plan to do just that today!

JOY

Dec 17, 2009

The song had beeen sung thousands of times before and had become too familiar.  The  words and musical instruction usually blurred upon the page and poured out of my mouth benign with no thought.  But this night, the song was presented in simple words upon a piece of paper and they suddenly became alive with meaning.

Joy to the World, the Lord has come!

The Savior that generations had anticipated had finally arrived.  Isaiah had written of his birth 600 years before.  "For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given...and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (9:6)

Let earth receive her King!

THE King was born, not in splendor amid royal processions and proclamations, but in a tiny city among sheep and oxen.  Not with servants to attend to his every need, but instead visited by shepherds and 3 little known wise men.  "Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?  We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him."  Matthew 2:2

Let every heart prepare him room

"Prepare:  to make ready beforehand, to put in a proper state of mind."   Not even the Inn in Bethlehem had a room to allow this King's entrance into the world.  My heart allowed him entrance many years ago, but am I  making room for him every single day?  The words reminded me that he doesn't enter uninvited.

And heaven and nature sing!

The time had finally arrived. The King's arrival had been planned before even the beginning of time. "Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." Luke 2:13  And all of God's creation rejoiced:  "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music, shout for joy before the Lord, the King.  Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.  Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; let them sing before the Lord."  Psalm 98:4-8

And on this night, the song became new again.  A blessed reminder of HIS most incredible gift.

Advent Calendar

Dec 10, 2009

I have always enjoyed the idea of an Advent Calendar, but was never crazy about just the hidden candies.  That didn't have much meaning.  I had been doing some web surfing looking for something else we could do as a family that would have more significance and I found a homeschool lesson on the names of Jesus.

A friend of mine made this Advent Calendar for me a few years ago, so I decided to make my own tags with the names of Jesus and the scripture reference. (click on tags and you can download them and use as you wish)

I then folded them and placed one in each day of the calendar.  Since this hangs in my kitchen, it is a great little devotion to do before dinner. Enjoy!

Get It In Your Soul

I discovered a fantastic tool to get scripture in my head each and every day without even trying!!  At a recent Hearts at Home conference I happened across an exhibitor with these fantastic products.  They are scriptures written backwards that sit on the dashboard of your car and reflect back into the window for you to see!  They take up only a small amount of space and are transparent so you see right through them.  They only display at the bottom of your window in about 6 inches of space.  Check out their website Get It In Your Soul.  This would be a fantastic gift for friends, church workers, teachers, etc.

I love mine and wanted to let you know about this very fun product.  I have never seen anything like it!

Gratitude

Dec 8, 2009

holy experience

I recently discovered Ann's wonderful blog, A Holy Experience.  Visiting there brings such a sense of quiet and calm.  I love visiting every day.  A Gratitude Community has sprung up at her blog, and I couldn't help but participate.  I have so much to be thankful for, and this seemed a great way to make it an intentional part of life, by recording those things as reminders of God's faithfulness to me and my family.

So today I begin my list of 1000 Gifts:

1.  Jesus Christ
2.  His gift of salvation
3.  His forgiveness of my retched sin
4.  My unbelievable, amazing HUSBAND
5.  Danielle Elizabeth
6.  Katherine Grace
7.  Anna Rose

Thank you for these amazing gifts, Lord Jesus!

Goats for Christmas

Dec 7, 2009

A catalog I had never received before showed up in my mailbox a couple of weeks ago.  Upon first glace, I thought it was going to be trinkets made by third world countries to order as gifts.  But as I flipped through the pages, I was completely shocked.  You buy livestock from this catalog!!  A smile burst across my face.  What a fantastic idea!
As with most things in my house, it was put aside with the rest of the mail pile(ugh).  Over the next week, I continued to think about this genius catalog I had received from World Vision.  It was forgotten for a time as I was preparing Thanksgiving dinner for 25!

Thanksgiving came, we ate, we visited, we played, we ate, and truly enjoyed our families being together.  The conversation came around to what we were going to do for gift exchanges this year.  As with everyone, money is tight in many of our families, especially my niece, nephew and sister-in-law who all have new babies. (so fun!)  Then it hit me!!  I ran from the room to find the catalog in my pile of mail (ugh).  I presented the idea to everyone at the table................and we all loved it!  Each family would give at least $15 toward purchasing livestock through WorldVision.  I have never seen people run for their money so fast!  Within 15 minutes, I had over $100!!  After everyone contributed (over and beyond the $15), my small family was able to donate $205 to purchase a sheep, a goat and a share of a donkey for families in the greatest of need.

These strange gifts can change the entire lives of a family.  Sheep provide a constant resource of wool for a family.  The goat provides milk and cheese to those starving.  A share of a donkey ensures a family has access to much needed transportation into their nearest town for medical services or to take items to the market to sell.

I am so proud and honored that my family fell in love with this idea, as I had.  On Christmas day my family will enjoy good food and good company as always.  I have a feeling the presents won't be missed because they have been replaced with the gift of giving to those who need it the most.

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did
for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'  Matthew 25:40

Thanks family!  I love you all!!

Could your family give in this way?  For as little as $25 you can give the gift of livestock.  Check it out at World Vision.

Please let me know if you donate in this way.  I would love to hear the stories of how your family was able to give!
