There is nothing that warms my soul more than encouragement from others. I am so thankful for my Sisters in Christ who have this gift. I have read some excellent blogs this week and am just awed by their sincerity, honesty, and openness. SarahMae over at Like A Warm Cup of Coffee, is doing a study on Titus 2 and it has reminded me that encouragement from not just "older" women, but "other" women is necessary for us to grow, think, and learn.

So a big THANK YOU to the many bloggers who have dedicated their blogs to the Glory of Jesus Christ. It is of great encouragement to so many.

Put Off Selfish Desires

Oct 26, 2009

OUCH! I hate it when God hits me right between the eyes!! And it was coming from all directions....church, bible study, a marriage testimony!

We all know there are things in our life that we need to work on. But I am REALLY good at denial. You know what I am talking about. We can't pay the bills because we don't make enough money. Certainly it can't be because I have trouble not buying anything for more than 2 consecutive days! Finances have always been a challenge for me. That is putting it mildly. I fail constantly at finances. I have my entire life. But God has been prodding my heart lately that my problem is not our shortage of money, my problem is selfish desires. I can rationalize the purchase of just about anything. I think I am being good if I only go shopping at thrift stores. But I am fulfilling desires that are all about me, while ignoring the bigger picture of paying our bills and getting out of debt.

It takes a long time to change a lifetime habit. I know I have my work cut out for me, but I am praying diligently that God will change my heart and destroy my selfish desires.

We Have Different Gifts

Oct 20, 2009

"We have different gifts, according to the grace given us....prophesying, serving, teaching, encouraging, contributing, leadership, mercy" Romans 12:6

I am so thankful for those in my life who follow this directive. They don't ignore their gifts, they use them to the fullest. I know people in every category mentioned above and I am so inspired by them.

My two youngest girls just recently joined Awana. This is a club based in churches all across the country that teach scripture, plain and simple. My 8 and 9 year old are memorizing 3-4 scriptures per week. Their leaders are encouraging, welcoming and inspiring. They call my girls each week to encourage them in their studies.

Our church has an outstanding children's ministry. I have several friends who serve diligently in this area. They are all amazing and my kids love it.

I am so thankful. You know that saying, "It takes a village to raise a child". I believe that!! I have so many wonderful people in our lives that affect my children and my husband and I because they are using the gifts God gave them to bless others.

So which gift have you been blessed with? I know mine, and I need to do more. How about you?

Hearts at Home

Oct 6, 2009

I just returned from volunteering at the Hearts at Home Greal Lakes Conference in Grand Rapids Minnesota. It was an awesome trip. I just love spending time with women who are on the same journey that I am. I love learning from them. I love listening to them. They inspire me to try new things. They inspire me to spend more time seeking God. They inspire me to be a more intentional mom.

Although 4 days is a long time away from family, I come home refreshed and ready to be a better wife and mother.

One of the best lessons I learned from the weekend was teaching my children how to respect and treat each other. Jim and Lynne Jackson (www.connectedfamilies.com)were speaking about discipline. They suggested correcting children that are tearing each other down by requiring them to say 3 nice things to their sibling for every 1 unkind thing that was said. Why didn't I ever think of that? I will certainly be putting this into practice. But I think I will carry it one step further. I am going to make this a family night activity by requiring each member of the family to write a quick note to each person about what they like or admire about them. This may get them in the habit of kind words in an atmmosphere that doesn't seem like punishment!!

If you have never been to a Hearts at Home event, now is the time! Every mom needs encouragement and friends to come alongside during the journey of motherhood. Don't try to do it alone!! Check out www.hearts-at-home.org for all kinds of information and motherhood encouragement.
